Colorado’s Niobrara formation soon will be affecting homeowners, sellers and buyers in eastern Douglas and Elbert counties.
Real estate agents there are starting to take classes in mineral rights and the hydraulic fracturing drilling method called “fracking.”
Several companies have been buying up mineral rights and setting up offices in Douglas County, though oil/gas companies have no active wells and haven’t received approvals yet for their permit applications.
Also, there are no active horizontal or fracking wells in Elbert County and only two drilling permits have been issued since 2009, according to the Colorado Oil Gas Conservation Commission.
