Denver’s renowned Tattered Cover Bookstores brand will appear in early 2014 at Denver International Airport under an exclusive license agreement with existing airport bookseller, Hudson News.
The agreement calls for construction of four Tattered Cover Bookstores, four Hudson Newsstands and one combination Hudson Newstand/Tattered Cover Bookstore in DIA’s main terminal and three concourses.
“The Tattered Cover has been a Denver institution for over 40 years and we’re proud to bring them to DIA,” said chief commercial officer John Ackerman. “This unique concession agreement will combine a successful, existing operator with an iconic, local brand. We’re excited to be able to offer this amenity to the traveling public.”
A Denver City Council committee today unanimously voted to move the concessions contract for the endeavor to the mayor and full council.
Tattered Cover is an independent bookstore chain with three locations in Denver.
Hudson News, which is based in Switzerland, has 650 locations in the United States and Canada including 70 airports.
The opening date is February 2014. First-year sales are projected at $17.9 million and annual rent during the 10-year contract is $2.7 million. About 78 employees are envisioned.
